The library has different units such as: Administrative, Readers Service, Collection Development, Technical Service, Serial, Bindery, Reprographic and E-library.
i. Administrative Unit- is the unit responsible for staff and students’ welfare,the head Librarian maintains a close relationship with the heads of unit, this is called participatory management, which is achieved through regular departmental meetings. The head librarian prepares library annual budget papers for staff promotions and development in the library and
procurement of working materials. In addition, the head librarian ensures departmental redeployment.
ii. Readers Service Unit- The readers service ensure maximum satisfaction of library users. It is sometimes referred to as ‘public service department”. This unit make sure library users enjoy quick and ready services which include the circulation, reserve and reference materials.
a. The Circulation Unit- The unit ensures the use of books by readers. The area where books are found in circulation section is called “ open access”. Books consulted from open access are left on the table for library staff to put back on the shelf accordingly. The shelves have shelf guide for identification of subject areas. Reading carrels, chairs and others furniture are found in this unit. Statistics of library users and books consulted are also recorded here.
b. Reserve Unit- Very few materials that are important to library users are kept for safety in the reserve unit to ensure library users have access to such materials whenever they are needed.
c. Reference Unit- The reference unit of the library is the area where reference materials are found. Readers are not expected to borrow these materials out of the library e.g encyclopedia, dictionary, directory, year book, etc.
iii. Collection Development- This unit is involved with the process of selection by HODs, library users and book sellers. The acquisition of library materials are done according to availability of fund by the University and TET Fund intervention. Cross checking of acquired materials with the ordering list is also done in the unit.
iv. Technical Unit-Library materials are sent to this unit for processing such as stamping, accessioning, cataloguing, classification and filing. The activities performed in this unit are behind the scene because library users are not involved with the activities of technical unit.
v. Serials Unit- This unit is the custodian of journals, magazines, newspapers, projects of different programmes etc. Indexing, abstracting and newspapercuttings; these are done to enable library users enjoy quick services.
vi. Bindery Unit- Old books with relevant information that need rebinding are handled in this unit, staff and students can also bring their personal information materials e.g project work for binding at reduced price.
vii. Reprography Unit- Library materials that are not meant to be taken out of the library such reference materials, materials from reserve unit and serials are photocopied in this unit. Other members of staff and students can also come to this unit for photocopy of their materials.
